Whitefish Lake Institute Rock Drop

ALL EYES ARE ON THE ROCK !

In the olden days, the resourceful people of Whitefish, in an attempt to entertain themselves during the long, cold winter months, would place wagers on when the ice would melt off of the lake.

All eyes would be cast out on the lake where a mutually agreed upon rock would be placed on the surface of the ice. The winter-weary, good people of Whitefish would place bets as to what day the rock would drop through the thinning ice signifying that the Spring Thaw had begun.

The Whitefish Lake Institute with the support of the Lodge At Whitefish Lake has resurrected this "exciting" tradition by staging the annual "ROCK DROP."
